Benzylpenicillin/Penicillin G

Benzylpenicillin, also known as Penicillin G, is a β-lactam antibiotic and belongs to the first generation of penicillins. It binds to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), inhibiting peptidoglycan cross-linking and causing the bacterial cell wall to lose its structural integrity. As a result, the bacterium ultimately ruptures and dies because it can no longer withstand osmotic pressure.
