Ciclopirox


Mechanism of action:

Ciclopirox is a hydroxypyridone derivative. Ciclopirox forms stable chelates with multivalent metal ions such as ferric ions (Fe³⁺) and aluminum ions (Al³⁺). These metal ions are essential cofactors for many fungal metalloenzymes. When these metal ions are chelated by ciclopirox, fungal metabolism and cell membrane function are disrupted, ultimately leading to cell death.
