Loperamide

Mechanism of action:
Loperamide is a peripheral μ-opioid receptor agonist. It primarily acts on μ-opioid receptors in the myenteric plexus of the intestinal wall, inhibiting the release of acetylcholine and other neurotransmitters that promote intestinal motility. This slows propulsive peristalsis and prolongs the retention time of intestinal contents within the gut lumen.
