Lorazepam


Mechanism of action:

Lorazepam is a benzodiazepine derivative. Lorazepam binds to the benzodiazepine-binding site on the GABA_A receptor and enhances the inhibitory effect of GABA_A receptor signaling. This increases the frequency of chloride channel opening, allowing chloride ions to enter neurons and causing membrane hyperpolarization, which produces anxiolytic, sedative-hypnotic, and anticonvulsant effects.
