Can Increasing NAD⁺ Levels Slow Aging? An Examination of Current Research (Technical Review)

Aging is accompanied by numerous physiological changes, including a decline in cellular energy metabolism, mitochondrial dysfunction, the accumulation of DNA damage, and chronic inflammation. In recent years, a molecule known as nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD⁺) has attracted considerable scientific attention. Numerous studies have observed age-related declines in NAD⁺ concentrations in certain animal tissues, while interventions that increase NAD⁺ levels appear to alleviate some physiological impairments associated with aging. These findings raise an important question: Could replenishing declining NAD⁺ levels help mitigate age-related deterioration in health?
