In the Bajo de Véliz region of San Luis Province, Argentina, a sedimentary succession approximately 160 metres thick preserves abundant fossils of late Palaeozoic organisms. This unit, known as the Bajo de Véliz Formation, forms part of the Paganzo Basin and represents a depositional system shaped by alternating fluvial and lacustrine environments. Finely laminated dark mudstones within the sequence contain numerous plant impressions, palynomorphs, and arthropod traces, allowing researchers to reconstruct both the vegetation and palaeoenvironment of that time.
