Acamprosate

Mechanism of action:

The exact mechanism of acamprosate remains unclear. In the central nervous system, it may interact with the neurotransmitter systems of glutamate and GABA, modulating the dynamic balance between glutamatergic and GABAergic signaling. This regulatory effect is thought to be related to the adaptive changes in the central nervous system associated with alcohol dependence.
