Adefovir

Mechanism of action:
Adefovir is converted inside infected cells into its active form, adefovir diphosphate. This active metabolite competitively inhibits the DNA polymerase of hepatitis B virus (HBV), and once incorporated into viral DNA, it causes chain termination because it lacks a 3'-OH group. As a result, viral replication is ultimately suppressed.
