Alfuzosin

Mechanism of action:
Alfuzosin blocks the binding of norepinephrine to α₁-adrenergic receptors, thereby inhibiting sympathetic nerve-mediated smooth muscle contraction. This reduces the tone of the prostate and bladder outlet, decreases urinary flow resistance, and alleviates lower urinary tract symptoms such as difficulty urinating and urinary retention. Alfuzosin has relatively weaker effects on vascular α₁ receptors, so its impact on blood pressure is usually smaller, although hypotension may still occur.
