Alogliptin

Mechanism of action:

Alogliptin inhibits the activity of the DPP-4 enzyme, preventing incretins such as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) from being degraded by DPP-4, thereby prolonging their presence in the bloodstream. These incretins promote glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic β cells and suppress glucagon release from pancreatic α cells.
