Bivalirudin


Mechanism of action:

Bivalirudin is a direct thrombin inhibitor that reversibly inhibits the activity of thrombin. Bivalirudin binds to the active site of thrombin, preventing thrombin from converting fibrinogen into fibrin. It also binds to the fibrinogen-binding site (exosite I), preventing thrombin from attaching to the thrombus surface and thereby reducing the likelihood of new thrombus formation and expansion of existing thrombi.
