Boceprevir


Mechanism of action:

Boceprevir is an NS3/4A protease inhibitor used against hepatitis C virus. During translation, hepatitis C virus produces a polyprotein precursor that must be cleaved by the NS3/4A protease into multiple functional proteins, such as NS4B, NS5A, and NS5B. Boceprevir binds to the active site of the NS3 protease, preventing cleavage of the polyprotein precursor and thereby blocking maturation of the nonstructural proteins required for viral replication.
