Bumetanide

Mechanism of action:

Bumetanide is a loop diuretic and a sulfonamide derivative. In the thick ascending limb of Henle's loop in the kidney, the Na⁺-K⁺-2Cl⁻ cotransporter is responsible for transporting these three ions from the tubular lumen into tubular epithelial cells. Bumetanide binds to this transporter protein and inhibits the reabsorption of Na⁺, K⁺, and Cl⁻, thereby increasing sodium and water excretion and affecting body fluid volume and blood pressure regulation.
