Buserelin

Mechanism of action:

Buserelin is a synthetic analog of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). Initially, buserelin overstimulates GnRH receptors in the pituitary gland, causing a transient rise in testosterone in males and estradiol in females. However, with continuous stimulation, pituitary GnRH receptors gradually undergo downregulation and lose sensitivity to GnRH, which suppresses gonadotropin production and places the gonads in a suppressed state.
