Cabergoline

Mechanism of action:

Cabergoline is a long-acting dopamine D₂ receptor agonist and an ergot derivative. Cabergoline activates D₂ receptors in the pituitary gland, inhibits adenylate cyclase, reduces cAMP levels, and lowers prolactin production and release. In addition, cabergoline activates D₂ receptors in the nigrostriatal pathway, enhancing dopamine signaling and modulating neural circuit transmission involved in motor control.
