Carbenicillin

Mechanism of action:

Carbenicillin is a beta-lactam antibiotic belonging to the carboxypenicillin class. Carbenicillin binds to bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and inhibits transpeptidase activity, preventing cross-linking of peptidoglycan. As a result, the bacterial cell wall becomes incomplete, and the bacteria rupture and die under osmotic pressure.
