Carboplatin

Mechanism of action:
Carboplatin is a structurally modified second-generation derivative of cisplatin. Inside the cell, carboplatin undergoes aquation to release active platinum ions (Pt2+), which bind to DNA bases, especially the N7 position of guanine, forming intrastrand and interstrand cross-links. These cross-links prevent normal DNA replication and transcription, may arrest the cell cycle at the G2/M phase, and trigger DNA damage responses and cell death-related pathways.
