Cefaclor

Mechanism of action:

Cefaclor is a second-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic. The beta-lactam ring of cefaclor binds to bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and inhibits their transpeptidase activity, preventing cross-linking of peptidoglycan chains. As a result, the cell wall structure becomes fragile, and the bacteria undergo lysis and die because of osmotic pressure.
