Cefuroxime

Mechanism of action:

Cefuroxime is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. The β-lactam ring of cefuroxime binds to bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and inhibits their transpeptidase activity, preventing peptidoglycan chains from cross-linking. As a result, the bacterial cell wall becomes structurally weak, and the bacterium eventually ruptures and dies because of osmotic pressure.
