Clonazepam

Mechanism of action:
Clonazepam is a benzodiazepine derivative. Clonazepam binds to the benzodiazepine-binding site on the GABA_A receptor and enhances the receptor's affinity for GABA. Once GABA binding is increased, the frequency of chloride channel opening rises, leading to chloride influx into neurons. This causes membrane hyperpolarization and reduces the generation of action potentials.
