Cromolyn
Mechanism of action:
Cromolyn is a mast cell stabilizer. Cromolyn inhibits calcium influx and degranulation after mast cell activation, although its mechanism is not yet fully understood. It blocks the intracellular signaling triggered after antigen binding to immunoglobulin E (IgE), thereby inhibiting mast cells from releasing histamine, leukotrienes, prostaglandins, and other mediators. This ultimately reduces bronchoconstriction, vasodilation, and inflammatory responses.
