Desmopressin
Mechanism of action:
Desmopressin is a synthetic analogue of antidiuretic hormone. It binds to V₂ receptors on the principal cells of the renal collecting ducts, activates Gs protein, stimulates adenylyl cyclase, and increases intracellular cAMP levels. This promotes the movement of aquaporin-2 (AQP2) water channels to the apical membrane, increasing water reabsorption, concentrating the urine, and reducing urine output.
