Enalapril


Mechanism of action:

Enalapril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor. After administration, it is hydrolyzed in the liver into its active form, enalaprilat, which inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme. This enzyme is responsible for converting angiotensin I into angiotensin II, a molecule that promotes vasoconstriction and raises blood pressure. When enalaprilat inhibits this enzyme, angiotensin II levels decrease, reducing vasoconstrictive signaling and lowering hemodynamic load.
