Esmolol

Mechanism of action:

Esmolol is a selective β₁-adrenoreceptor blocker. The β₁ receptor is mainly distributed in the heart. By competitively blocking the β₁ receptor, esmolol reduces heart rate, decreases myocardial contractility, and slows atrioventricular nodal conduction.
