Felbamate

Mechanism of action:
Felbamate is a neuroregulatory compound with multiple mechanisms of action. Felbamate is thought to act primarily at the glycine binding site of the NMDA receptor, blocking glycine's role as a co-agonist and reducing calcium influx, thereby suppressing excessive excitatory neurotransmission. In addition, Felbamate may enhance GABA_A receptor-mediated inhibitory neurotransmission, increasing chloride influx, causing neuronal hyperpolarization, and lowering the probability of neuronal firing.
