Fenofibrate

Mechanism of action:
Fenofibrate is a fibrate derivative. After being converted in the body into fenofibric acid, fenofibrate binds to PPAR-α and regulates the transcription of multiple genes involved in lipid metabolism. It increases the expression of lipoprotein lipase, accelerates the breakdown of triglycerides in very-low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) and chylomicrons, and promotes pathways related to fatty acid oxidation.
