Gemfibrozil

Mechanism of action:

Gemfibrozil is a fibrate. Gemfibrozil binds to PPAR-α and regulates the transcription of multiple genes involved in lipid metabolism. It increases the expression of lipoprotein lipase, thereby accelerating the breakdown of triglycerides in very low-density lipoproteins (VLDL) and chylomicrons.
