Hydrochlorothiazide

Mechanism of action:
Hydrochlorothiazide is a thiazide diuretic and a benzothiadiazine derivative. Hydrochlorothiazide blocks the Na⁺/Cl⁻ cotransporter (NCC) on the luminal side of the distal convoluted tubule in the kidney, reducing reabsorption of sodium and chloride ions from urine back into the bloodstream. This increases urine output, decreases blood volume, and thereby lowers blood pressure.
