Lamivudine


Mechanism of action:

Lamivudine is a nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor and a cytidine analog derivative. After entering the cell, it is sequentially phosphorylated by cellular kinases into the active form, lamivudine triphosphate. Lamivudine triphosphate competes with natural dCTP and becomes incorporated into viral DNA, inhibiting HBV DNA polymerase or HIV reverse transcriptase and causing termination of viral DNA elongation, thereby preventing viral replication.
