Lansoprazole

Mechanism of action:
Lansoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor. After entering gastric parietal cells, it is converted within the highly acidic secretory canaliculi into its active sulfenamide form. Active lansoprazole then forms a covalent bond with the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase proton pump on the apical membrane of parietal cells, blocking hydrogen ion secretion into the gastric lumen and thereby suppressing gastric acid secretion.
