Linezolid

Mechanism of action:
Linezolid is an oxazolidinone antibiotic. Linezolid binds to the 23S rRNA of the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, near the peptidyl transferase center. This inhibits formation of the 70S initiation complex, preventing proper assembly of mRNA, tRNA, and the ribosome, and thereby blocks the earliest stage of protein synthesis.
