Lisdexamfetamine


Mechanism of action:

Lisdexamfetamine is a central nervous system stimulant and is a prodrug of amphetamine. Lisdexamfetamine is a covalently linked prodrug composed of dextroamphetamine and L-lysine. After entering the bloodstream, it is hydrolyzed by enzymes within red blood cells. The converted dextroamphetamine then enters neurons and promotes the release of dopamine or norepinephrine from synaptic vesicles into the synaptic cleft. Dextroamphetamine can also act on the dopamine transporter and norepinephrine transporter, inducing reverse transport and further increasing synaptic dopamine and norepinephrine concentrations.
