Lomefloxacin

Mechanism of action:
Lomefloxacin is a second-generation fluoroquinolone antibiotic and an inhibitor of DNA gyrase (bacterial topoisomerase II). Lomefloxacin binds to the DNA gyrase-DNA complex and prevents the re-ligation of cleaved DNA generated by DNA gyrase. This leads to the accumulation of DNA breaks, halts DNA replication and transcription, and ultimately causes bacterial death. It may also inhibit topoisomerase IV.
