Mafenide
Mechanism of action:
Mafenide is a sulfonamide compound. Mafenide competes with 4-aminobenzoic acid (PABA) and inhibits bacterial dihydropteroate synthase, thereby reducing the production of dihydrofolic acid. This subsequently blocks the formation of tetrahydrofolic acid, ultimately impairing bacterial DNA, RNA, and protein synthesis.
