Maraviroc


Mechanism of action:

Maraviroc is a CCR5 antagonist. Maraviroc binds to CCR5 (C-C chemokine receptor 5) on the cell membrane and alters its conformation, preventing it from being recognized by the HIV-1 envelope glycoprotein gp120. This blocks viral entry into the cell and therefore prevents viral replication. Its activity is limited against viral strains that use CXCR4 as a co-receptor.
