Methohexital

Mechanism of action:

Methohexital is a barbiturate derivative. Methohexital binds to the barbiturate binding site of the GABA_A receptor and enhances the action of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA (γ-aminobutyric acid). It prolongs the opening time of chloride channels, allowing more chloride ions to enter neurons and causing marked hyperpolarization of the cell membrane.
