Metoprolol

Mechanism of action:

Metoprolol is a selective β₁-adrenergic blocker. Metoprolol primarily acts on β₁ receptors in the myocardium and cardiac conduction system, blocking the binding of norepinephrine and epinephrine and weakening sympathetic signaling. This leads to a decrease in heart rate, myocardial contractility, and atrioventricular conduction velocity.
