Miglitol


Mechanism of action:

Miglitol is an α-glucosidase inhibitor. Miglitol inhibits α-glucosidase, sucrase, maltase, and isomaltase in small intestinal epithelial cells. These enzymes are responsible for breaking down disaccharides, oligosaccharides, and complex carbohydrates into absorbable glucose. When these enzymes are inhibited by miglitol, carbohydrate digestion slows down and glucose absorption is delayed.
