Misoprostol

Mechanism of action:
Misoprostol is a prostaglandin E₁ derivative. Misoprostol binds to EP3 prostaglandin receptors in the gastrointestinal tract, increasing mucus and bicarbonate secretion in the gastric mucosa. It also binds to EP2, EP3, and EP4 prostaglandin receptors on uterine smooth muscle, increasing uterine smooth muscle contraction as well as cervical softening and dilation.
