Nitrofurantoin

Mechanism of action:
Nitrofurantoin is a nitrofuran derivative. After entering bacteria, nitrofurantoin is reduced by bacterial nitroreductases, generating highly reactive intermediates. These intermediates simultaneously attack bacterial DNA, RNA, proteins, and cell membranes, causing multi-layered cellular damage.
