Nitrous oxide

Mechanism of action:

Nitrous oxide does not act through a single receptor, but rather through multiple central nervous system regulatory mechanisms. Among these, nitrous oxide inhibits NMDA receptors, thereby reducing glutamatergic excitatory neurotransmission. Nitrous oxide also activates the μ-opioid receptor and increases the release of endorphins and enkephalins.
