Olsalazine

Mechanism of action:

Olsalazine is a prodrug of 5-aminosalicylic acid. After being converted into 5-aminosalicylic acid in the colon, it exerts its pharmacological effects. 5-Aminosalicylic acid inhibits cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase, reducing the production of prostaglandins and leukotrienes and thereby decreasing intestinal inflammation.
