Pantoprazole

Mechanism of action:
Pantoprazole is a proton pump inhibitor and a benzimidazole derivative. Pantoprazole is a prodrug that is converted into its active sulfenamide form within the acidic secretory canaliculi of gastric parietal cells. The sulfenamide forms a covalent bond with the H+/K+-ATPase proton pump, irreversibly inhibiting proton extrusion and blocking gastric acid secretion.
