Paroxetine

Mechanism of action:

Paroxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor and a phenoxyphenylpropylamine derivative. Paroxetine binds with high affinity to the serotonin transporter, blocking the reuptake of serotonin (5-HT) into presynaptic neurons. This increases the concentration of serotonin in the synaptic cleft and enhances activation of serotonin receptors on postsynaptic neurons.
