Pentobarbital


Mechanism of action:

Pentobarbital is a barbiturate derivative. Pentobarbital binds to the barbiturate binding site on the GABA_A receptor complex, prolonging the opening time of chloride channels and increasing Cl⁻ influx. This causes neuronal hyperpolarization and reduces neuronal excitability, producing sedative and relaxing effects and influencing central nervous system regulation associated with tension headaches.
