Pirenzepine
Mechanism of action:
Pirenzepine is a selective muscarinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. It mainly antagonizes M₁ muscarinic receptors in the enteric nervous system and in central and peripheral cholinergic neurons. Blocking M₁ receptors suppresses the stimulatory effect of the vagus nerve on gastric acid secretion, thereby reducing gastric acid secretion.
