Psilocybin

Mechanism of action:

Psilocybin is a psychedelic agent and belongs to the tryptamine derivatives. In the body, psilocybin is metabolized into the active compound psilocin. Psilocin can cross the blood-brain barrier and activate 5-HT2A receptors in the central nervous system. Through Gq protein coupling, it activates phospholipase Cβ, increases IP3/DAG, raises cytosolic calcium, and activates protein kinase C, ultimately increasing the excitability of cortical pyramidal neurons.
