Spectinomycin


Mechanism of action:

Spectinomycin is an aminocyclitol antibiotic (aminocyclitol antibiotic). Spectinomycin specifically binds to the 16S rRNA region on the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit and blocks ribosomal translocation along mRNA, specifically the movement from the A site to the P site. This interrupts peptide chain elongation and prevents bacteria from synthesizing proteins.
