Sulfinpyrazone

Mechanism of action:
Sulfinpyrazone is a uricosuric agent and a pyrazolidinedione derivative. Sulfinpyrazone inhibits uric acid reabsorption transporters in the proximal renal tubules, including urate transporter 1 (URAT1), thereby reducing the reabsorption of uric acid from the tubular lumen back into the blood. This increases uric acid excretion and lowers blood uric acid levels. Sulfinpyrazone also reduces ADP- and thromboxane A2-mediated platelet aggregation.
