Thiopental

Mechanism of action:
Thiopental is a thiobarbiturate derivative. Thiopental binds to the barbiturate binding site of the GABA_A receptor, enhances the inhibitory effect of GABA, and prolongs the opening time of chloride channels. This increases chloride influx, causes hyperpolarization of the neuronal membrane, and makes neurons less likely to generate action potentials.
